Hotel Indigo has crossed a major global milestone, reaching 200 operating hotels worldwide as IHG Hotels & Resorts accelerates the lifestyle brand’s expansion across international markets, including an increasingly important footprint in Thailand. The achievement means Hotel Indigo has doubled in size since 2019, when the brand had 100 hotels operating globally.

Launched in 2004 as part of IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio, Hotel Indigo has grown across more than 30 countries, while another 134 properties are currently in its development pipeline. Significantly for the regional hospitality industry, this Thailand Hotel News report finds that Thailand is emerging as an important part of the brand’s Asian growth story, with established Bangkok and Phuket hotels being joined by newer properties and additional developments.
Neighborhood Identity Drives Global Expansion
Unlike hotel concepts built around near-identical properties, Hotel Indigo positions individual hotels around their neighborhoods. Design, food, architecture, artwork and guest experiences are intended to reflect the history, personalities and culture surrounding each location.
That strategy has helped the brand expand rapidly. Europe now accounts for 55 operating Hotel Indigo properties, with another 22 under development. Recent international openings have extended the brand into new destinations including the Caribbean, Portugal and Peru.
Expansion in the Americas has included Hotel Indigo Turks & Caicos Grace Bay, Hotel Indigo La Paz Puerta Cortes and Hotel Indigo Tijuana Downtown in Mexico, and Hotel Indigo Raleigh in North Carolina.
Thailand Becomes a Bigger Part of the Story
Thailand already provides Hotel Indigo with a notable platform for further growth. Established properties include Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road, close to Lumphini Park, Hotel Indigo Bangkok Phayathai and Hotel Indigo Phuket Patong.
Bangkok’s portfolio has expanded further with Hotel Indigo Bangkok Thonglor, bringing the neighborhood-focused concept into one of the capital’s best-known lifestyle and entertainment districts.
More growth is coming. Hotel Indigo Phuket Nai Yang Beach has been signed for development, potentially strengthening the brand’s presence beyond Patong and into another distinctive Phuket destination. Hotel Indigo The Forestias Bangkok is also planned within The Forestias, the major mixed-use development outside central Bangkok.
Expansion Push Reaches New Markets
IHG is simultaneously pushing Hotel Indigo into markets where the brand previously had little or no presence. Hotel Indigo Riyadh Al Olaya is scheduled to open in 2027, introducing the flag to Saudi Arabia, while a signed Egyptian project will mark Hotel Indigo’s debut in Egypt and include its first branded residences.
Greater China remains another growth market. Hotel Indigo Ningbo has recently opened, with additional hotels planned for Chongqing and Jingdezhen.
Reaching 200 hotels demonstrates how neighborhood-led lifestyle hospitality has moved from a relatively niche concept into a significant international segment. For Thailand, the pipeline is particularly noteworthy because new properties in Bangkok and Phuket could deepen competition for travelers seeking hotels offering a stronger sense of place rather than standardized experiences. With 134 more hotels under development globally, Hotel Indigo’s latest milestone appears less like a finishing line and more like the beginning of its next expansion phase.
