The sale represents another major milestone in Origin Hotel’s long-term business strategy, which focuses on creating recurring income while expanding its presence across Thailand’s tourism and hospitality sectors. According to Mr. Peerapong Charoonek, Chief Executive Officer of Origin Property Public Company Limited, the successful transaction aligns with the company’s Build-Operate-Exit-Reinvest approach to asset management. Through this Thailand Hotel News report, it is evident that Origin is placing increasing emphasis on developing hospitality assets, enhancing their value, and strategically monetizing investments to create opportunities for future growth.
Asset Sale Supports Expansion Strategy
Mr. Peerapong stated that the completion of the ibis Phuket Kata sale reflects the company’s success in creating value from its hotel assets while also demonstrating the effectiveness of its asset management strategy.
The transaction was conducted in accordance with the original business plan established jointly with investment partner Tokyu Land Asia. By successfully completing the sale and unlocking additional capital, Origin has strengthened its financial position and increased its ability to pursue new investment opportunities within Thailand’s growing hospitality market.
The company views the transaction as a practical example of how hospitality assets can be developed, operated, and eventually sold at an enhanced value, with proceeds reinvested into future projects that generate long-term recurring revenue.
A Successful Investment Journey
Origin Hotel first expanded aggressively into the budget hotel market in 2022 through a major acquisition valued at approximately 1.05 billion baht. The investment involved the purchase of three ibis-branded hotels from The Erawan Group Public Company Limited and Erawan Nakha Company Limited.
The portfolio consisted of ibis Phuket Kata, ibis Hua Hin, and ibis Styles Krabi Ao Nang, with a combined total of 664 rooms. The acquisition provided Origin with an immediate presence in Thailand’s highly competitive budget hotel segment while benefiting from the strength of the globally recognized Accor brand.
Among the acquired assets, ibis Phuket Kata emerged as one of the most strategically located properties. Situated near the popular Kata Beach area of Phuket, the hotel features 258 rooms spread across five floors. The property was opened in 2022 through a collaboration between Origin Hotels and Tokyu Land Asia and was designed to accommodate both domestic and international travelers visiting Phuket.
Its strong location, operational performance, and growing tourism demand helped create the value that ultimately led to the successful completion of the sale.
Diverse Hospitality and Recurring Income Portfolio
Although ibis Phuket Kata has now been sold, Origin Hotel continues to maintain a substantial hospitality portfolio across Thailand.
Currently, the company operates eight hotels with more than 2,000 rooms and a combined asset value exceeding 11 billion baht. Its portfolio includes well-known properties such as Staybridge Suites Bangkok Sukhumvit, Holiday Inn Suites Sriracha, Holiday Inn Express Rayong, ibis Hua Hin, and ibis Styles Krabi Ao Nang.
Beyond its existing operations, the company continues to develop new hospitality projects in key destinations including Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Pattaya. These developments are expected to strengthen recurring income streams and support long-term business growth.
Origin Hotel also operates additional recurring-income businesses. Its office building segment includes Origin Complex Sanam Pao, which provides approximately 32,200 square meters of office space. Meanwhile, its commercial development division consists of five projects with a combined area of 17,425 square meters, including Portobello Mall and Neighbor 24.
Strong Position for Future Growth
The successful disposal of ibis Phuket Kata demonstrates the increasing sophistication of Thailand’s hospitality investment landscape. Rather than focusing solely on hotel ownership, companies such as Origin are actively managing their assets to maximize value throughout the investment lifecycle.
The additional capital generated from the transaction provides Origin with greater financial flexibility and reinforces confidence in its Build-Operate-Exit-Reinvest strategy. As Thailand’s tourism industry continues to recover and expand, the company appears well positioned to capitalize on new opportunities while strengthening its portfolio of recurring-income assets. The sale not only validates the company’s investment approach but also creates a foundation for future expansion, strategic partnerships, and sustainable long-term growth within Thailand’s hospitality sector.
