Key points

  • The expansion represents a substantial vote of confidence in Thailand’s long-term tourism market and builds on an established relationship between the Thai integrated lifestyle real estate group and the Spanish hospitality company.
  • The property will introduce the Paradisus by Meliá brand to Thailand and is being positioned as a luxury all-inclusive resort designed for a new generation of travelers in Asia.
  • INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit was included among Bangkok’s leading hotels in the Condé Nast Traveler 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards and received recognition in the Design Hotel category at the Thailand Tourism Awards.

Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC) and Meliá Hotels International are significantly expanding their hospitality partnership in Thailand, setting out a long-term development program that is expected to take their combined portfolio beyond 3,000 hotel keys by 2036. The agreement will bring additional luxury and lifestyle properties to major Thai destinations while widening the presence of several Meliá brands, including Meliá Hotels & Resorts, ME by Meliá, Paradisus by Meliá, INNSiDE by Meliá, and Gran Meliá Hotels & Resorts.

The expansion represents a substantial vote of confidence in Thailand’s long-term tourism market and builds on an established relationship between the Thai integrated lifestyle real estate group and the Spanish hospitality company. With AWC pursuing a pipeline extending through 2036, this Thailand Hotel News report highlights a partnership that is moving beyond individual hotel developments toward a broader multi-brand strategy spanning Bangkok, Pattaya, and other leading destinations. Approximately 1,900 keys are already represented across AWC’s operating and pipeline portfolio with Meliá, with the enlarged framework intended to push that figure above 3,000.

Paradisus Brand Heading for Jomtien Beach

One of the most important projects in the pipeline is Paradisus Jomtien Resort, scheduled to open in 2031 on Pattaya’s Jomtien beachfront. The property will introduce the Paradisus by Meliá brand to Thailand and is being positioned as a luxury all-inclusive resort designed for a new generation of travelers in Asia.

Its arrival could add another dimension to Pattaya’s rapidly evolving upscale hotel sector. The destination has traditionally offered an exceptionally broad range of accommodations, but Jomtien and the wider Pattaya area have increasingly attracted internationally branded resorts and lifestyle developments aimed at higher-spending leisure travelers.

For Meliá, the project also provides an opportunity to introduce a hospitality format that extends beyond the conventional resort stay. Paradisus is centered on an all-inclusive luxury concept, giving the partners a differentiated product as Thailand’s resort destinations compete for increasingly sophisticated international and regional demand.

Two Meliá Hotels Coming to Bangkok’s Sukhumvit

Bangkok is another major focus of the expanded partnership. Two properties are planned for Sukhumvit 24 and Sukhumvit 26 in the Phrom Phong area, one of the capital’s most active upscale residential, retail, dining, and hospitality districts.

Both hotels are scheduled to begin welcoming guests in the fourth quarter of 2026 under a conversion label before transitioning in the fourth quarter of 2027.

The Sukhumvit 24 property will become ME by Meliá, marking the lifestyle brand’s debut in Asia, while the Sukhumvit 26 hotel will operate under Meliá Hotels & Resorts.

The two hotels are being developed with distinct identities. ME by Meliá is expected to emphasize contemporary luxury and lifestyle experiences, while Meliá Hotels & Resorts will draw on the group’s Spanish hospitality heritage and a more family-oriented approach. Despite their differences, guests at the two properties are expected to have access to selected facilities and experiences across both hotels.

The projects strengthen Meliá’s position in Bangkok while giving AWC two complementary international hotel concepts in neighboring Sukhumvit locations. Together with Paradisus Jomtien Resort, the three identified developments represent approximately 1,100 additional keys.

Existing Hotels Provide Foundation for Expansion

AWC is already Meliá Hotels International’s largest property owner in Thailand, and the expanded agreement builds upon several operating hotels rather than starting from a new relationship.

The existing portfolio includes Meliá Chiang Mai, INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit, Meliá Koh Samui, and Meliá Pattaya Hotel. These properties give the partnership a presence across urban, island, cultural, and coastal tourism markets and provide a foundation for introducing additional Meliá brands.

Several hotels have also collected industry recognition. INNSiDE by Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit was included among Bangkok’s leading hotels in the Condé Nast Traveler 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards and received recognition in the Design Hotel category at the Thailand Tourism Awards.

Meliá Chiang Mai received the Thailand Tourism Excellence Award in the City Hotel category and was recognized among Thailand’s Top Upcountry Hotels in the Travel + Leisure Luxury Awards Asia Pacific 2023. Meliá Koh Samui has received recognition from TTG Travel Asia and the World Travel & Hotel Awards, while Meliá Pattaya Hotel was included among Smart Travel Asia’s Top 10 New Hotels.

Sustainability Becomes Part of the Growth Strategy

AWC and Meliá are also placing sustainability at the center of the expanded relationship, presenting responsible hospitality as part of the guest experience rather than a separate corporate initiative.

Existing properties within the portfolio have obtained sustainability and wellness certifications including LEED, WELL, and ECOSTARS. Meliá Pattaya Hotel has additionally become the first hotel in Southeast Asia to achieve WELL Certification at the Platinum level.

The partners say their wider approach includes wellness-focused stays, responsible hotel operations, locally sourced ingredients, and support for Thai farmers, artisans, communities, and locally produced goods.

One initiative highlighted in the partnership is The Gallery, which connects travelers with products created by Thai communities. The concept is intended to allow tourism spending to reach local producers and craftspeople while introducing guests to Thai creativity and craftsmanship.

AWC Chief Executive Officer and President Wallapa Traisorat said the two companies share a belief in Thailand’s potential to become one of the world’s leading sustainable tourism destinations. She emphasized that the partnership extends beyond developing hotels and incorporates local sourcing, community products, responsible operations, and support for farmers and artisans.

Thailand Remains a Strategic Asian Market for Meliá

For Meliá Hotels International, the agreement forms part of a much wider international growth strategy. Founded in 1956, the company now has a portfolio exceeding 400 hotels in more than 40 countries and has built a particularly strong reputation in leisure and resort hospitality.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gabriel Escarrer Jaume described Thailand as one of the company’s most strategic markets in Asia Pacific, pointing to its international appeal and the diversity of destinations available to travelers.

That diversity is particularly relevant to the AWC partnership. Rather than concentrating development in a single resort market, the companies can deploy different brands across Bangkok, island destinations, northern Thailand, and the Eastern Seaboard. The multi-brand approach also allows individual hotels to target different traveler profiles, from families and luxury leisure guests to urban lifestyle customers.

A Decade-Long Pipeline Takes Shape

The scale and duration of the agreement make the partnership notable within Thailand’s hotel development landscape. A pipeline extending to 2036 gives AWC and Meliá considerable room to introduce brands selectively as destinations and traveler preferences evolve.

The immediate development picture is already becoming clearer, with two Sukhumvit hotels approaching their initial 2026 openings, their subsequent brand transitions planned for 2027, and Paradisus Jomtien Resort scheduled for 2031. Beyond those projects, the target of more than 3,000 keys signals further expansion as suitable destinations and developments enter the pipeline.

For Thailand’s hospitality industry, the significance lies not simply in the number of rooms being added but in the range of brands, locations, and guest segments involved. AWC contributes local real estate expertise and access to major destinations, while Meliá brings an international brand portfolio and decades of hotel operating experience.

As the partnership moves toward 2036, its success will ultimately depend on how effectively the companies translate their ambitious development pipeline into distinctive hotels while maintaining the sustainability, community engagement, and hospitality standards they have made central to the agreement. With Bangkok projects arriving first and a major new luxury all-inclusive brand heading for Jomtien, the next phase of AWC and Meliá’s Thailand expansion is already taking shape.
