Thompson Hotels Arrives in Italy

Later in 2026, Hyatt plans to introduce its lifestyle-focused Thompson Hotels brand with the opening of Thompson Rome. Situated within a restored heritage building near major landmarks including the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Piazza Venezia, the hotel is expected to blend contemporary luxury with Rome’s historic character.

The 69-room property will include three distinct dining venues, highlighted by an Italian Riviera-inspired restaurant on the sixth floor and a rooftop cocktail bar offering panoramic city views. The opening is expected to strengthen Hyatt’s position within the increasingly competitive lifestyle hospitality segment.

Luxury Focus Turns to Sicily

Hyatt’s luxury ambitions will continue with the planned opening of Park Hyatt Taormina in 2028. Located in one of Sicily’s most prestigious resort destinations, the hotel will become only the second Park Hyatt property in Italy.

The 121-suite development will offer private terraces, sweeping views of the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, a luxury spa, and dining experiences inspired by local Sicilian culture and cuisine. The property is expected to attract affluent international travelers seeking exclusive resort experiences in southern Italy.

According to forecasts from the World Travel & Tourism Council, international visitor spending in Italy could reach an unprecedented €78 billion by 2035.
