China’s official Golden Week runs from October 1 to 7, but Thailand’s tourism authorities are monitoring a wider September 25 to October 7 travel period as many travelers combine the Mid-Autumn Festival with National Day leave. For hoteliers, this Thailand Hotel News report comes as booking indicators suggest that demand is materializing well before the holiday itself, giving operators greater visibility over occupancy during a traditionally important Chinese outbound travel period.
Forward Bookings Point Upward
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), citing ForwardKeys data, says bookings to Thailand for October are currently 16 percent higher year-over-year. Flight searches from China for Thailand have risen 24 percent, with particularly strong interest originating from Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Chongqing.
Those figures are significant for hotels because they indicate travel intent is progressing beyond general destination interest. Additional direct air capacity is also arriving, with TAT reporting six new direct routes between China and Thailand launching across September and October. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Udon Thani are among destinations benefiting from direct connectivity with the Chinese market.
Longer Holidays Could Mean Longer Hotel Stays
Fresh Trip.com Group data provide another encouraging signal. More than half of Chinese outbound flight bookings for the holiday period involve departures before October 1, with departure volumes expected to peak on September 25 and September 30. Average outbound trip duration is now more than nine days.
Across Trip.com Group’s Chinese outbound booking data, hotel reservations for seven nights or longer have jumped 123 percent year-over-year. While that increase covers outbound destinations generally rather than Thailand specifically, it demonstrates a major shift toward longer vacations that Thai hotels are well positioned to capture. Multi-destination itinerary bookings have also increased 84 percent, with Southeast Asia remaining important for multi-stop journeys.
Thailand Targets 250,000 Chinese Arrivals
TAT expects approximately 250,000 Chinese visitors between September 25 and October 7, representing 24 percent year-over-year growth. These travelers are forecast to generate approximately 11.5 billion baht, an increase of 37 percent. During the official October 1-7 Golden Week alone, Thailand expects around 137,000 Chinese arrivals and approximately 4.2 billion baht in tourism revenue.
Thailand is also attempting to convert online interest into actual spending through Nihao Month 2026. TAT’s campaign with Meituan runs from September 15 through October 31 and promotes hotels, restaurants, flights, attractions, and location-based offers to Chinese consumers before and during their trips.
Hotels Prepare for a Valuable Holiday Window
For Thailand’s accommodation sector, the combination of stronger forward bookings, increased flight searches, earlier departures, longer itineraries, and additional airline capacity provides encouraging evidence ahead of Golden Week.
The opportunity extends beyond room occupancy: longer stays can generate additional spending on dining, wellness, excursions, transportation, and other hotel services, potentially making this extended holiday period particularly valuable for Thailand’s tourism economy.
