Bangkok’s already crowded upscale hotel scene is heading for another major addition, with the long-awaited voco Bangkok Sukhumvit 11 now expected to open in late 2028. The development has had a much longer journey than initially expected. IHG Hotels & Resorts first announced the property with B&G Estate Co., Ltd. in 2019, when the hotel was scheduled to contain 300 rooms and open in 2021. That timetable ultimately slipped by several years. However, this Thailand Hotel News report comes as foundation and piling work provides a much more tangible sign that the project is moving forward, with current construction progress and project information pointing toward an early 2029 opening.
Bigger Hotel Emerges from Original Plans
The scale of voco Bangkok Sukhumvit 11 has changed considerably since the original agreement was announced. The latest project specifications indicate that the hotel will contain 487 guest rooms, representing an increase of 187 rooms compared with the 300-room property initially planned.
The enlarged development is expected to rise 21 floors and bring a substantial new inventory of upscale accommodation into the Sukhumvit corridor.
Architectural renderings show a contemporary high-rise characterized by a dark-glass exterior, greenery incorporated into terraces and a prominent corner design intended to complement the dense urban surroundings.
For IHG, the property also represents the continuation of a project with particular historical significance. When the management agreement was announced, voco Bangkok Sukhumvit 11 was promoted as the first voco hotel signing in Southeast Asia, coming shortly after IHG launched the brand internationally.
Prime Position in Sukhumvit Soi 11
Location could prove to be one of the hotel’s strongest commercial advantages. The development occupies a large site on Sukhumvit Soi 11, a street internationally recognized for its restaurants, bars, nightlife, hotels and entertainment venues.
Nana BTS Station is within walking distance, giving future guests convenient rail access to other parts of central Bangkok. That combination of nightlife and public transportation should place the property in a strong position to attract international leisure visitors as well as business travelers seeking accommodation in central Sukhumvit.
The neighborhood has also become increasingly competitive as hotel operators continue investing in Bangkok and established properties renovate or reposition themselves for higher-spending visitors. Adding nearly 500 rooms under an international upscale brand will make voco Bangkok Sukhumvit 11 a sizeable entrant rather than a small lifestyle hotel.

Rooftop Dining, Pool and Events Planned
Food and beverage facilities are expected to play an important role in the property, particularly given its position in one of Bangkok’s busiest nighttime districts. Plans include an all-day dining restaurant along with a rooftop restaurant and bar designed to capitalize on views across the Bangkok skyline.
Guests are also expected to have access to a swimming pool, pool bar and fitness center. These facilities reflect voco’s positioning as an upscale brand combining the individuality and relatively informal character of a lifestyle hotel with the systems and service standards associated with a major international hotel group.
Meetings and events will provide another component of the business. Updated project information points to more than 500 square meters of meeting facilities, including ballroom space, expanding the hotel’s potential appeal beyond tourists and short-stay leisure guests. The ballroom will be able to accommodate 450 to 500 guest.
A Project Years in the Making
B&G Estate, the Bangkok-based developer behind the hotel, is also associated with the Interchange 21 commercial property in the Asoke-Sukhumvit district. When the original voco agreement was announced, the company described the project as part of its ambitions to expand its hospitality portfolio.
Much has changed since those original plans. The anticipated 2021 opening disappeared as the development encountered lengthy delays, while the eventual hotel grew significantly in scale. The fact that foundation and piling activity is now underway therefore represents an important milestone for a project that has remained on Bangkok’s hotel development radar for years.
The lengthy development period also means the hotel will enter a very different Bangkok hospitality market from the one envisaged when it was signed. By 2029, competition across Sukhumvit is likely to be even more intense, making location, design, dining and brand recognition increasingly important in securing market share.
Sukhumvit 11 Prepares for a Major New Arrival
If the current construction trajectory is maintained, the early 2029 debut of voco Bangkok Sukhumvit 11 will finally bring one of the area’s most prolonged hotel developments to completion. Its expanded 487-room scale, rooftop hospitality concepts, meeting facilities and highly visible Sukhumvit location could make it a significant addition to Bangkok’s upscale accommodation market. After years of delays and changing plans, physical progress is giving the project renewed momentum and a much clearer path toward welcoming its first guests.
