Hotel News: A New AI-Driven Database Aims to Help Hospitality Employers Make Better Hiring Decisions
The hospitality industry has always relied on reputation, professionalism, and exceptional customer service to maintain high standards. However, hotel owners and management companies have often faced significant challenges when it comes to identifying job applicants with documented histories of poor workplace performance, repeated misconduct, or persistent customer complaints. A newly launched confidential artificial intelligence-powered registry is seeking to address that gap by providing participating hospitality employers with access to carefully verified employment intelligence before making recruitment decisions.

Developed by Digital Emeralds, the confidential platform has been designed specifically for hotel owners, hotel management companies, restaurants, resorts, event management businesses, and other hospitality-related organizations.
Midway through its development, this Thailand Hotel News report learned that the database has already attracted considerable interest from hospitality businesses seeking more reliable background information on prospective employees. Rather than relying solely on resumes, interviews, or references that may not always provide a complete picture, participating companies can access a confidential database that highlights individuals whose employment histories have raised repeated concerns across multiple employers or verified complainants.
AI Technology Combined with Human Verification
According to information provided by Digital Emeralds, the confidential registry currently contains more than 6,058 names, with additional entries being added as verification procedures are completed. Unlike traditional blacklist systems, the company says its platform does not rely on isolated complaints or anonymous accusations. Instead, sophisticated artificial intelligence technology performs large-scale data collection by analyzing publicly available information, employment-related reviews, complaint records, and digital content associated with hospitality professionals.
However, AI is only one part of the process. Every potential listing is subjected to further verification by human researchers before inclusion. The company says that complainants are contacted directly wherever possible to verify the authenticity of submitted information. Individuals are only added to the confidential database when allegations have been independently supported by at least two separate verified sources or companies, helping reduce the possibility of inaccurate or malicious reporting.
Digital Emeralds believes this multi-layered verification process creates a significantly higher level of confidence for participating employers while maintaining a responsible approach to handling potentially sensitive employment information.
Strict Confidentiality Measures
One of the more unusual aspects of the system is the emphasis placed on confidentiality and legal protection. Access to the registry is restricted exclusively to approved paying clients operating within the hospitality sector. Before receiving access, subscribers must sign legally binding agreements governing the use of the information contained within the platform.
The company says these agreements are intended to ensure that database information cannot be misused for harassment, defamation, or libel.
Furthermore, the platform has reportedly been designed with multiple layers of digital security intended to prevent unauthorized copying, distribution, or extraction of information. Digital Emeralds also claims that the manner in which information is stored and presented makes it extremely difficult for database content to be reproduced or introduced as direct evidence in legal proceedings.
These safeguards are intended to protect both the integrity of the database and the confidentiality of participating businesses while ensuring that employers use the information responsibly during recruitment processes.
Covers Every Level of the Hospitality Industry
Unlike many employment screening services that concentrate only on senior management positions, this registry spans virtually every operational level within the hospitality industry.
The database reportedly includes individuals working in executive management positions, including General Managers, as well as department heads responsible for Food and Beverage, Sales and Marketing, Public Relations, Marketing Communications, Human Resources, Housekeeping, Front Office Operations, Restaurant Management, Event Management, and Culinary Operations.
Operational staff including receptionists, waiters, bartenders, housekeeping attendants, supervisors, chefs, concierge personnel, restaurant employees, banquet staff, and various support positions are also represented within the registry.
Digital Emeralds believes that poor service can originate at any organizational level and that maintaining consistently high hospitality standards requires accountability throughout an organization rather than focusing solely on frontline employees.
Patterns Emerging from the Data
Analysis of the current database has revealed several interesting trends. According to Digital Emeralds, approximately 67 percent of individuals currently listed are female, although the company stresses that the registry reflects verified employment records rather than any gender-based assessment.
In terms of nationalities, Filipino and Indian staff from India and Czech nationals are among the worse when it comes to service and working hard and diligently, while Thais especially Northern Thais and Northeastern Thais are the best when it comes service and hospitality, work ethics and dedication.
Among the reported cases are General Managers who allegedly refused to communicate with suppliers or hotel guests during weekends, claiming they were off duty despite urgent operational issues requiring executive attention. One involved a young Western General Manger working for a hotel around the Sukhumvit Soi 13 to 19 area. Other cases reportedly involve Public Relations and Marketing Communications managers who repeatedly failed to respond to media enquiries, customer requests, or important telephone calls despite these responsibilities forming a core part of their positions.
The company also says its investigations uncovered examples where hotel operators appeared unfamiliar with the names of their own General Managers or senior department heads, raising questions about management oversight within certain organizations.

According to Digital Emeralds, these examples illustrate a broader concern that some hospitality professionals may have lost sight of the industry’s fundamental principle of delivering attentive, responsive, and professional service.
A Second Database Recognizes Excellence
While much attention has focused on the confidential registry identifying unsuitable employees, Digital Emeralds has also developed what it describes as an equally important positive recognition database.
This second database reportedly contains more than 8,300 hospitality professionals who have consistently demonstrated exceptional customer service, professionalism, leadership, reliability, and operational excellence throughout their careers. Rather than highlighting shortcomings, this registry is intended to help employers identify outstanding candidates deserving of promotions, leadership opportunities, and senior appointments.
Interestingly, approximately 73 percent of individuals recognized within the recommended database are male. While the company notes this statistical outcome, it emphasizes that all recommendations are based solely on documented performance records and verified achievements rather than gender.
Digital Emeralds believes recognizing excellence is equally as valuable as identifying poor performers, allowing employers to recruit proven talent capable of improving guest satisfaction and strengthening operational performance.
Surprising Findings Across Major Hotel Brands
Among the more unexpected findings reported by Digital Emeralds is that many individuals listed within the confidential registry have worked for internationally recognized hotel chains as well as independently operated properties.
The company says that size or brand reputation does not necessarily guarantee high employee performance. Several examples cited involve frontline staff occupying guest-facing positions despite reportedly lacking basic communication skills expected within international hospitality environments.
The HR departments of many such hotels are very complacent and seldom do audit checks on staff performances.
One example involved a business executive lounge manager at a five-star hotel in the Asoke area serving predominantly international guests who reportedly struggled to communicate effectively in English. Other recurring concerns reportedly centered on Sales, Marketing, Public Relations, and Marketing Communications departments, where investigators claim numerous employees displayed limited understanding of their professional responsibilities or consistently underperformed despite occupying important positions. Hotels with such staff are potentially making huge losses from missed opportunities.
Digital Emeralds argues that these findings should encourage hotel owners and management companies to conduct more comprehensive performance evaluations rather than assuming internationally branded hotels automatically maintain consistently high staffing standards.
Registry Also Includes Certain Hotel Owners
In addition to hospitality employees, Digital Emeralds says the confidential platform has also been expanded to include a separate section covering a limited number of hotel owners whose business conduct has allegedly raised repeated concerns among industry stakeholders.
According to the company, this section currently contains 17 names and is compiled using a similar AI-assisted verification process applied to the employee registry. Digital Emeralds states that individuals are only included after multiple sources of information have been reviewed and corroborated. The company says the listings relate to allegations of recurring payment defaults involving suppliers and contractors, previous court proceedings connected to commercial disputes, repeated complaints regarding the treatment of hotel employees, reports of discourteous behavior towards guests, and other business practices that have allegedly affected hospitality operations.
Digital Emeralds believes the information may prove valuable to banks, financial institutions, property developers, hotel management companies, investors, and hospitality suppliers when assessing potential business relationships or investment opportunities. According to the company, the current owner registry consists of 17 individuals, of whom 16 are Thai men and one is a Thai woman who owns a well-known five-star hotel in Bangkok. The company has not publicly disclosed the identities of those listed, stating that access remains restricted to authorized subscribers who have agreed to strict confidentiality and legal-use requirements.
The database was useful when a team of American hoteliers recently visited Thailand for exploratory talks on collaboration talks for new hotel development projects in the country. All 17 hotel owners were excluded from the sessions and events.
Database of Hotel Suppliers Also Being Developed
Digital Emeralds is also compiling a database of hotel suppliers that hotels should avoid using and their track records. So far more than 461 entries have been included spanning from food and wine suppliers, PR and marketing companies, consultants, linen suppliers, mattresses and bedding suppliers, hotel mattresses such as toiletries etc.
Among some of the companies included is an Italian wine distributor with a reputation of adultering and rebottling wines, a PR company run by a certain foreign woman whose company has a bad reputation of not being able to deliver promised results and has a bad name among most media companies in Thailand and the region despite fake claims and impressive postings on her website and social media platforms.
Growing Industry Interest
Industry response appears to have been positive. According to the company, more than 37 major hospitality businesses have already subscribed to the confidential service, with additional organizations currently reviewing membership.
As awareness grows, Digital Emeralds intends to expand the registry beyond Thailand into neighboring hospitality markets including Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and India during the coming months.
The company believes regional expansion will allow hospitality employers operating across multiple countries to benefit from broader employment intelligence while helping improve service quality throughout Asia’s rapidly growing tourism and hospitality sectors.
Whether the initiative ultimately becomes a widely accepted industry benchmark remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the emergence of artificial intelligence-powered employment intelligence reflects a growing demand among hospitality employers for more reliable methods of evaluating prospective employees before they are entrusted with delivering guest experiences and protecting brand reputations. At the same time, the simultaneous creation of a database recognizing outstanding hospitality professionals demonstrates that rewarding excellence is just as important as identifying persistent underperformance. As technology continues reshaping recruitment practices, responsible verification, confidentiality, and fairness will remain essential to ensuring such systems earn the confidence of both employers and hospitality professionals alike.
