On the very first day of the event, thousands of Thai visitors streamed into the venue, exploring travel booths, collecting brochures, and comparing deals. However, despite the lively atmosphere and steady foot traffic, many travel operators and hotel representatives quietly admitted that actual confirmed bookings were far fewer than expected.

Visitors appeared eager to browse promotions but remained cautious when it came to spending. Many attendees carefully compared prices, asked detailed questions, and photographed promotional posters before moving on to the next booth without committing to a purchase. This Thailand Hotel News report found that several exhibitors reported a similar pattern: plenty of inquiries but limited conversions into real sales. Even highly discounted offers—such as hotel buffet vouchers and hotel weekend stay packages—failed to generate the surge in purchases that organizers and vendors had anticipated.

Bargain Hunters Dominate the Fair

One consistent theme echoed across the exhibition floor: visitors were clearly searching for deep discounts or what many described as “extreme bargains.” Hotel representatives said many guests were hoping for deals significantly cheaper than typical promotional prices.

Some exhibitors explained that potential customers were willing to book only if the prices were dramatically lower than online travel platforms or last year’s promotions. In several cases, travelers spent considerable time negotiating or waiting in the hope that additional last-minute discounts might appear later in the fair.

Domestic travel packages and hotel stay deals—usually among the biggest draws at the Thai Teaw Thai event—appeared to face the most hesitation from buyers this year. While booths offering resort stays in various Thai provinces attracted attention, many visitors ultimately chose to delay booking decisions.

Outbound Travel Interest Remains Strong

While domestic tourism deals struggled to convert interest into purchases, outbound travel packages showed stronger interest from Thai consumers. Travel agents reported that Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and China remained among the most popular international destinations attracting inquiries during the fair.

Several exhibitors also noted a rising curiosity among Thai travelers toward alternative overseas destinations, especially those perceived as offering better value compared to local holiday spots. For some visitors, international trips were surprisingly seen as more competitively priced than certain domestic destinations.

Phuket Pricing Draws Criticism from Travelers

One of the more striking comments heard repeatedly at the fair involved Phuket. Many Thai visitors openly said they were reluctant to book holiday packages to the island, claiming that prices there had become excessively high.

Some travelers compared Phuket’s pricing unfavorably with international destinations such as Bali, Sri Lanka, and Mauritius, which they felt offered more attractive packages for similar or even lower costs. Several visitors said accommodation, food, and overall travel expenses in those overseas destinations appeared more reasonable when compared to the perceived cost of holidaying in Phuket.

Vietnam was also frequently mentioned during conversations at the fair. Many Thai travelers said packages to Vietnamese destinations appeared significantly cheaper than comparable domestic holiday options within Thailand.

What the Fair’s Mixed Signals Could Mean

The strong turnout but cautious spending seen at the Thai Teaw Thai 77th Edition Travel Fair may reflect changing consumer behavior in Thailand’s travel market. While interest in travel clearly remains high, many Thai travelers are becoming increasingly price-sensitive and willing to compare options carefully before committing to bookings.

Travel operators and hotel groups may need to reconsider pricing strategies, particularly for domestic tourism packages, if they hope to convert high visitor turnout into actual revenue. The fair highlighted that while enthusiasm for travel remains alive among Thai consumers, value and competitive pricing are now key factors shaping their final decisions.

The Thai Teaw Fair runs form the 5th of March till the 8th of March at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.
