Thailand Hotel News: Thailand’s luxury hospitality landscape is preparing for a significant expansion as Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC) moves forward with plans to introduce two internationally branded hotels in the heart of Bangkok’s historic Yaowarat district. The InterContinental Bangkok Chinatown Hotel and the Kimpton Bangkok Chinatown Hotel will become the first international luxury hotel brands to establish a presence in Chinatown, forming the hospitality centerpiece of AWC’s landmark mixed-use redevelopment of the historic Nakorn Kasem precinct. The ambitious project is backed by a 40.5 billion baht Sustainability-Linked Loan agreement signed with Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), reinforcing confidence in both the scale of the development and its long-term contribution to Thailand’s tourism economy.

The hotel development forms a major component of the wider transformation of the historic 14-rai Nakorn Kasem site, one of Bangkok’s most culturally significant districts. This Thailand Hotel News report highlights how the two luxury hotels are expected to reshape accommodation options in Yaowarat while complementing a broader vision that combines heritage preservation, retail, entertainment and community spaces. Scheduled for full completion in 2029, the mixed-use destination has been designed around the concept of “Legacy of the Past, Inspiration of Tomorrow,” blending the rich Thai-Chinese heritage of Chinatown with modern international hospitality standards.
InterContinental Bangkok Chinatown to Set New Standards
The InterContinental Bangkok Chinatown Hotel will feature more than 300 guestrooms and suites, making it one of the largest luxury hotels ever developed in the Yaowarat district. The hotel will occupy a striking 10-storey main building while carefully incorporating a restored historic commercial building that will be transformed into an exclusive collection of luxury suites, preserving the architectural character that has defined the neighborhood for generations.
One of the hotel’s most significant features will be its ballroom, spanning more than 1,100 square meters and capable of accommodating up to 750 guests. It will become the largest ballroom in Yaowarat, positioning the property as an important venue for conferences, weddings, corporate functions and high-profile events. Together with premium dining venues, upscale guest facilities and the renowned InterContinental brand’s signature service standards, the hotel is expected to attract both international leisure travelers and the lucrative meetings and events market.
Kimpton Bangkok Chinatown Brings Lifestyle Luxury
Complementing the InterContinental will be the Kimpton Bangkok Chinatown Hotel, offering more than 200 guestrooms designed around Kimpton’s distinctive boutique lifestyle concept. Like its sister property, the hotel will combine a contemporary 10-storey building with a sensitively restored historic commercial building overlooking the Ong Ang Canal.

The Kimpton brand is recognized globally for its personalized guest experiences, vibrant restaurants and destination bars, and the Bangkok Chinatown property is expected to continue that tradition. The combination of modern luxury with carefully preserved heritage architecture will provide visitors with an accommodation experience that reflects both the cultural richness of Yaowarat and the expectations of today’s international travelers.
Together, the two hotels will deliver more than 500 luxury rooms, creating a significant increase in premium accommodation capacity within one of Bangkok’s busiest tourism districts.
Hotels at the Centre of a Landmark Mixed-Use Development
While hospitality remains a key focus, the hotels are only one part of AWC’s broader vision for Nakorn Kasem. The redevelopment covers more than 14 rai of prime land in the heart of Chinatown and will introduce a carefully integrated mix of hospitality, retail, entertainment and cultural attractions.
Among the development’s standout features will be a Universal Destinations & Experiences partnership that will introduce a Kung Fu Panda-themed entertainment experience inspired by the character and heritage of Yaowarat.
The project will also feature premium retail outlets, shopping streets, a contemporary Chinese pavilion and community cultural spaces designed to preserve the area’s unique identity while creating new reasons for visitors to extend their stay.
AWC also plans to enhance accessibility through an integrated green transportation network that includes a local tram system, improved links to Khlong Ong Ang and the Chao Phraya River, connections with Bangkok’s MRT network and parking facilities capable of accommodating more than 800 vehicles. The infrastructure is intended to improve visitor circulation while supporting local businesses throughout the surrounding community.
Sustainable Investment Supporting Tourism Growth
The development is being financed through a 40.5 billion baht Sustainability-Linked Loan agreement between AWC and SCB. Of the total financing, 10.5 billion baht has been allocated specifically as a green loan for the Nakorn Kasem Yaowarat development, while the remaining 30 billion baht will support other high-quality AWC tourism and hospitality projects across Thailand.
AWC President and Chief Executive Officer Wallapa Triprasorn said the financing demonstrates strong confidence in the company’s long-term sustainable growth strategy and financial position. SCB Chief Executive Officer Sarach Ratanaporn added that the partnership reflects both organizations’ shared commitment to supporting projects capable of creating lasting economic and social value while elevating Thailand’s tourism infrastructure to international standards.
The two Chinatown hotels represent far more than additional luxury accommodation. They will serve as flagship hospitality anchors within one of Bangkok’s most ambitious urban regeneration projects, combining internationally recognized hotel brands with heritage conservation, premium retail, world-class entertainment and improved transport connectivity. As Yaowarat continues evolving into a globally competitive tourism destination while retaining its distinctive cultural identity, the InterContinental Bangkok Chinatown Hotel and the Kimpton Bangkok Chinatown Hotel are expected to play a defining role in welcoming a new generation of international travelers seeking authentic experiences paired with world-class comfort and service.
